In developing the new series of special rolling bearings, SMS Meer paid particular attention to the fact that the external dimensions and lubrication interfaces are exactly the same and match the old equipment components. The absolute interchangeability of bearings in size and application is also ensured for other equipment manufacturers whose construction form is similar to that of SMS Meer units. Such units can use SMS Meer rolling bearings, that is, there is no limit to reliability. Customers can take advantage of the higher production efficiency of rolling bearings without structural or mechanical modifications to existing equipment.
1. Bearing type and characteristics
Common bearing types for SMS high line rolling mills include:
Four-row cylindrical roller bearings: mainly used for radial support of rolls, bearing extremely high radial loads, with high rigidity and impact resistance.
Double row tapered roller bearings: used to bear both radial and axial loads, ensuring the axial positioning of the roll.
Oil film bearing/liquid dynamic pressure bearing: Suitable for ultra-high speed conditions, reducing friction through oil film lubrication, common in finishing mill groups.
Special sealed bearing: dustproof, waterproof design, adapt to the rolling process of cooling water and oxide sheet environment.
2. Key performance requirements
High speed adaptability: the line speed of the rolling mill can reach 100-120 m/s, and the bearing needs to meet the dynamic stability at high speed.
High temperature resistance: rolling area temperature up to 200°C or above, bearing materials need to use high temperature steel (such as GCr15SiMn) or special coating.
Long life and reliability: Extended service life by optimizing heat treatment processes (such as bainite quenching) and surface treatments (such as carburizing).
Accurate to neutral: the installation accuracy is very high (usually ≤0.02mm), to avoid early bearing failure caused by partial load.
3. Lubrication and cooling system
Oil and gas lubrication: the first choice in high-speed working conditions, through the compressed air atomized trace oil, to achieve efficient heat dissipation and reduce oil pollution.
Thin oil circulation lubrication: for heavy-duty low-speed parts, a filtration system is required to prevent impurities from entering the bearing.
Cooling water management: Roll cooling water may seep into the bearing housing, which needs to be protected with multiple seals (e.g. labyrinth seal + rubber seal).
4. Common faults and maintenance
Fatigue spalling: Due to periodic load, vibration signals and noise changes need to be regularly detected.
Lubrication failure: caused by oil circuit blockage or oil deterioration, oil pressure, oil temperature and cleanliness should be monitored.
Improper installation: misalignment or preload deviation causes abnormal wear, requiring calibration with special tools.
Countermeasures: Use condition monitoring (such as online temperature sensor), replace lubricant regularly (recommended period ≤3000 hours), and strictly follow the installation specifications.
5. Brand and selection suggestions
Domestic substitution: the high-end bearings of Luoyang LYC, Wafangdian ZWZ and other manufacturers are gradually applied to domestic rolling mills.
Selection basis: It is necessary to combine mill design parameters (speed, load, roll diameter), cost budget and comprehensive evaluation of maintenance ability.
6. SMS rolling mill bearing matching cases
Some SMS high line rollers will customize bearing configurations, such as:
Finishing mill group: oil-gas lubrication + four rows of cylindrical roller bearings, line speed up to 120m/s.
Pre-finishing section: double row tapered roller bearings, bearing combined loads and allowing minor aligning.
Reducer gear bearing: Adopt high precision angular contact ball bearing to ensure smooth transmission.
